Custom Fiber Processing Services Offered
We specialize in custom processing and blending of fine and exotic fibers.
We can create a custom blend with your fiber and include other types of fiber.
We can create a custom blend that includes our Icelandic along with yours or other types of fiber.
Please include your request for a custom blend on your order form & we will contact you to discuss a specific blend just for your needs.
Whether you’re wanting a custom blend created or normal processing services, we welcome the opportunity to process your fiber.
Please include an ORDER FORM in each bag of fiber you’re sending us to process for you.
You can ship us your fiber or drop-off your fiber at our Mill.

Skirting Service
$28/per hour
Skirting is the removal of the lower quality fiber; britch, head, neck, legs, poo and grease tags. While picking and carding fiber eliminates a lot of vegetation matter, it is not a guarantee that it will remove all of it. If your fiber has heavy vegetation matter, we suggest you spending some time to “monkey pick” it prior to submission to help ensure your finished product has little to no vegetation matter.
We reserve the right to decline an order if the fiber has excess vegetation, moth activity, mildew, mothball smell or dander. We will notify you and ship the fiber back to you at your cost or dispose of the fiber; whichever you prefer.
Hand Washing Service
$5.50/per pound
- Mid-low grease; Wools, Alpaca, Llama
- Based on skirted weight
- Processing costs are additional
- Clean fiber is a must, so if you send us washed fiber and the lanolin level is too high to process in our equipment, we will wash the fiber again which means the wash rates will apply.
- We prefer to hand wash fiber to protect it from being over processed. We remove enough lanolin to ensure it does well through processing, while not stripping out all of the natural oils. It is our opinion that there shouldn’t be a need to add oils because too much lanolin has been removed while scouring.
- We follow sustainable farming practices here at OVFFM which is why we use the Unicorn line of commercial scouring agents. Their products are gentle and environmentally friendly.
